Founder & Managing Director, ExecCap Advisors
Jim Enrique Tolbert is the Founder and Managing Director of ExecCap Advisors, a capital advisory firm specializing in executive advisory services, business acquisition advisory, and strategic financial advisory. He brings decades of hands-on experience in mergers and acquisitions, private equity–backed operations, and cross-border capital strategy.
At ExecCap Advisors, Jim works closely with experienced executives, founders, and investors—particularly those pursuing Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition (ETA)—to help them identify, acquire, and grow established businesses. His advisory approach combines institutional-level rigor with practical, operator-first insight, making him a trusted advisor for executives seeking autonomy, ownership, and long-term value creation.
Jim began his career at Morgan Stanley International, working in the Mergers and Acquisitions departments in New York and London.
He later joined McKinsey & Company in Chicago, advising clients across strategic, financial, and operational challenges.
These early roles laid the foundation for his deep expertise in capital structuring advisory, acquisition strategy, and executive-level decision-making.
Beyond advisory roles, Jim has extensive experience as a principal operator. He served five years as Chief Financial Officer of a private equity–backed company and later spent 15 years as Founder and Chief Executive Officer of another private equity–backed platform.
He personally led acquisition sourcing, valuation, financial due diligence, negotiations, and purchase documentation, while also managing complex regulatory approvals and coordinating multidisciplinary advisory teams.
Today, Jim focuses on helping executives navigate the full acquisition lifecycle—from investment thesis development and deal sourcing to capital partner alignment, transaction execution, and post-acquisition leadership transition. His work frequently supports private equity advisory for founders, acquisition advisory for executives, and capital strategies designed to scale businesses responsibly.
Jim holds a Bachelor of Science in Economics, summa cum laude, from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Chicago.
